About Gaslight Interiors

The idea for Gaslight Interiors was born in 1997 when Creative Director Alison Siegel Sanchez won the Great American Home Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation for the interior restoration of the Hardie-Brown house, an 1890 Queen Anne Victorian in the Fruitvale District of Oakland, California. Being recognized nationally by the Trust and local preservationists for the labor-of-love project she had been working on with her husband since 1986 opened a window of insight into how most owners of Bay Area historic buildings do not consciously destroy the architectural features of their homes and commercial spaces. In fact, many of those who own these treasures are drawn to them because of their unique architectural elements.

The mission of Gaslight Interiors is to restore pre-1939 period interiors to their former glory, as they were meant to look in their heyday, with a keen eye to 21st century comforts and necessities.

At Gaslight Interiors, we are experts in the design, reinterpretation, and restoration of period-inspired and historic spaces. Our services include interior design, decoration, renovation, adaptive reuse, consulting, as well as scenic/theatre design. We specialize in Victorian, Brown Shingle, Craftsman Bungalow, Colonial Revival, and Spanish Colonial Revival spaces, integrating authentic color schemes, furnishings, materials and finishes, wallcoverings, flooring, tilework, millwork, and tin ceilings. Where applicable, we strive to adhere as closely as possible to The Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Historic Preservation. With an extensive knowledge of period design, Gaslight Interiors brings historically-accurate, timeless, detailed, and colorful interiors to San Francisco Bay Area historic buildings. Our designs will always strive to preserve iconic historic design elements such as the green, yellow, and burgundy tiles that define 1920s and 1930s “jazz-era” kitchens and bathrooms and other essential features that capture an era.

Creative Director Alison Siegel Sanchez has a graduate certificate in Interior Design and Interior Architecture from UC Berkeley Extension.
